Dan Morrison (@danielrmorrison.bsky.social) interviews Dr. Melissa Osborne (@mosbornesoc.bsky.social), Associate Professor of Sociology at Western Washington University on their 2024 book Polished: College, Class, and the Burdens of Social Mobility, which was published by the University of Chicago Press. The book follows 150 low income and first-generation college students as they face the social psychological challenges of social mobility at 18 different colleges and universities in the United States. Osborne’s research and writing focuses on social mobility, inequality, and organizations.
