This week, The Annex sits down with Vincent Roscigno of Ohio State University. Vincent is a Distinguished Professor of Sociology, former editor of the American Sociological Review, and current head of an ASA task force on scholars from working class and first-generation families. He wrote The Face of Discrimination (University of Minnesota Press) and The Voice of Southern Labor (Rowman & Littlefield), and is now working on Inequality and Power in Everyday Life (with Polity Press). We discuss the challenge of theorizing power, the plight of the non-privileged in the profession, and tips on submitting that ASR manuscript. In addition, we talk about Southern Illinois University’s attempts to staff volunteer faculty, and the plight of Caribbean Britons whose citizenship status is in question.
