Dan Morrison is joined by guest co-host Jeffrey N. Parker (@jnparker.bsky.social), Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of New Orleans. Jeffrey is an urban sociologist specializing in place reputation at multiple levels of analysis, from the neighborhood to the region. Together, they interviewed Dr. Ricard Ocejo, professor of sociology at John Jay College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Ocejo is editor of City & Community, and is also a prolific scholar in the areas of urban and cultural sociology, community studies, work and occupations, and methods, having written or edited five books. He also hosts the sociology channel on the New Books Network, and so is no stranger to the podcast format. He’s here to discuss his latest book, Sixty Miles Upriver: Gentrification and Race in a Small American City, published this year by Princeton University Press.
